17 And He said to Adam, “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’:
The ground is cursed because of you.
You will eat from it by means of painful labor
all the days of your life.
The word Hebrew word for labor here has the same root as the word for labor concerning childbirth concerning Eve. Both will painfully labor as a result of disobedience, Eve as she brings forth a child from the dust of man, and Adam as he toils in the fields of life.
