Remorse

Matthew 27:3 NASB

3 Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.

The word translated as remorse here is translated as repent in other translations. This is not the word used for repentence that leads to forgiveness. This word expresses the idea of regret and worry for self, but does not reflect a change in direction, of a turning to God.

μεταμέλλομαι * metamellomai * met-am-el'-lom-ahee * From G3326 and the middle of G3199; to care afterwards, that is, regret: - repent (self).
