Rachel Was Beautiful

Genesis 29:17 ESV

17 Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance.

This story may foreshadow the union of God and His people as pictured in the marriage metaphor. Leah was born first but her eyes were weak, symbolizing Israel's hardening of heart and thus trouble seeing.

Jacob worked for Rachel, symbolizing the Bride of Christ. Jacob works for and marries both of them. 

Here again is a repetition of the theme of the younger chosen over the older. The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
