But Under Grace

Romans 6:14 ESV
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

The law lays the burden of sin on our backs. It brings knowledge and judgement of our plight, and it is heavy.  It is the only way for us to understand grace and to seek it.  With knowledge we become aware of our chains.  With grace we are able to lay them aside.

We were under grace in the Garden before the fall. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil became the law which opened our eyes. Trying to cover our nakedness with our own works is about as effective as hiding behind a tree with a fig leaf. Perhaps it was a fig tree that held the forbidden fruit. Jesus cursed the fig tree because it bore no fruit. It was cut down and we were grafted in, but the stump yet lives. So we will all be formed into the tree of life, which is fruitful and brings forth leaves of healing and peace.
