666 - Revelation 13:18

Revelation 13:18 NIV
This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

In John's vision let us look at the sixth part of each three of the seven series that portray history. The son of disobedience will appear in these last days and fall before the sword of The Lord, for He has given us His word.

There is much debate on what this number means. It could be informative in several ways, but in the end we've got his number and he is destined to fail.

Sixth Seal
The earth is shaken and every mountain was removed from its place.
Heaven recedes and the islands flee.
Darkness prevails and blood flows.
The mighty of the earth seek refuge in the earth to shield them from the wrath of God.

Sixth trumpet
The wind at the river Euphrates is released.
An army is loosed upon the world. They speak words of darkness and have the sting of death. It is Satan's army. They gather for the last battle.

Sixth Bowl
Satan is released for a little while. The beast and false prophet join him for the last battle against God.   We have a hint of how this will go.  It is the "the great day of God Almighty".  From the mouth of all three of these creatures come a flood that will wash away all those not in the ark of The Lord.

Revelation 6:12-17
I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”

Revelation 9:13-21
The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number.
The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this:Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur. A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths. The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.
The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Revelation 16:12-16
The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.
“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”
Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.
