There are extremists of all kinds. Violence and destruction seem to be a common marker, whether it be jihad, on the streets of the disenfranchised, or the religion of the self.
Civilization calls for and strives for something other than the animal impulses of the beast in the field. Scripture tells us that murder, hate, slander, etc., all flow from the same well of darkness. Only the light can heal the darkness, but the darkness cannot comprehend the light.
We are called to be the light, for this can be a dark, dark place.
