Matthew 7:12 ESV
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Did the Law disappear with the coming of Jesus? No. He said He came to do what no one else was able to do. That is to fulfill the law.
He embodied the word from whom the Law came. The Law prepared the way for the coming of the Lord. Christ is the Law and the prophets fulfilled. The body of Christ on the earth today participates in that fulfillment and is the only way mankind can overcome the sin revealed by the Law.
The Law pointed to the life of God. Jesus would embody the life of God so that we might embody the life of God.
The Law taught us about God as one teaches little children, with commands of do and don't. Love contains the teaching of the Law, but frees us for the life from the one who gave us the Law. The language of do and don't is transformed into the language of love.
Jesus fulfilled the law, teaching us about love. Love contains the Law, for the Law came from God and God is love.
