Plurality Of One - Genesis 1:1

Genesis 1:1 ESV

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In the first verse of Genesis, the Hebrew word for God is in the plural. In Matthew 28:19 the Greek word for the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is singular.

The name of the three persons of the triune God is one.

Both are true. That is the mystery of God who is beyond our understanding, yet has become one with us. There is room for more, in fact there are many rooms in the Father's house.

It is infinite and eternal.
