Leafy Branches - Mark 11:8-10

Mark 11:8-10 NASB
And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:
“Hosanna!
Blessed is HE who comes in the name of the Lord;
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;
Hosanna in the highest!”

We think of palm branches strewn before The Lord. This account just says branches. Other tree branches were used as well. These were spread before the Branch of Judah, and therefore a fitting acknowledgement for their Savior.

That they were cut from the fields may infer something new and not made with hands, and originating outside the city. Those that accept Him will receive new cloaks made clean by His righteousness.

Leviticus 23:40
Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.
