Calling To The Caves And Rocks - Revelation 6:14-17

Revelation 6:14-17 ESV
The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

The mountains and rocks in view here represent earthly powers. Earth dwellers (non-believers) call out pleas for help to their own gods and idols, rather than the name of The Lord. They continue in their rejection of the True God.

For this reason wrath will come. Only those who stand with The Lord will be able to stand at all.

Luke 23:28-31
But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed! ’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us. ’ For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.
