Inside A Man - Psalms 64:5-6

Psalms 64:5-6 NIV
They encourage each other in evil plans,
they talk about hiding their snares;
they say, “Who will see it?”
They plot injustice and say,
“We have devised a perfect plan!”
Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.

Psalms 64:5-6 ESV
They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
They say, “ Who can see them?”
They devise injustices, saying,
“We are ready with a well- conceived plot”;
For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep.

The ESV says the heart and thought of man is deep. The NIV speaks of human mind and the heart as cunning. The LXX uses the imagery of a distant sea to convey the idea of this mysterious and dark thing called the corrupted heart, as a far sea distant from the heart of God. God can still the sea. In the new creation the sea will be no more. God can heal a heart and does so every day.

A time will come when the earth will be renewed and there will be no room for evil purpose.

Proverbs 20:5
The purpose in a man's heart is like deep water,
but a man of understanding will draw it out.

Isaiah 29:15
Ah, you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel,
whose deeds are in the dark,
and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”

Jeremiah 17:9-10
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
“I the Lord search the heart
and test the mind,
to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds.”

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
