Even More Fruitful

John 15:2 (NIV)

2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful.

Every branch in the vine must bear the fruit of the vine. Jesus says the Father removes the branch that does not.

The initial fruit is the Spirit of the Father, given as the first fruits of the kingdom, and is received by faith. The Holy Spirit dwells within each believer’s heart, reshaping our lives into the image of God.

The branch does not start out producing complete clusters of fruit, but grows at the hand of our loving Father. Fruit of the Spirit is the necessary outcome of the presence of the Holy Spirit. It cannot be otherwise. The Father alone sees what needs to be done and works on our behalf so that we are even more fruitful.
