All Were Satisfied

Matthew 15:34-39 (NIV)

34"How many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked "Seven," they replied, "and a few small fish."35He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 38The number of those who ate was four thousand, besides women and children. 39After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.

There are more than one insight to be gained from a given scripture. Possible messages here may be:

Seven loaves represent the perfection of Jesus as the bread of heaven which gives life.

The few fish might represent the disciples who are given the bread to pass on to the crowd.

Sitting down on the ground could foreshadow the banquet of Christ, the wedding feast to come.

The boundless supply of God’s grace is displayed by the seven baskets of broken pieces left over.

Four is the number of creation.

Women and children are included because the bread was for everyone.

The locale of Magadan is uncertain, so He will have to come back for us to be with Him.

“They all ate and were satisfied” Amen.
