Deceiving Yourselves - James 1:22-25

James 1:22-25 ESV

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

This may the best way to distinguish between a nominal Christian and a disciple of Christ. A Christian sits on the shoreline of the kingdom of heaven. The disciple gets up and walks into the promised land.

The promised land is the good soil that accepts the seed of the word which takes root and grows into a majestic tree by the waters of life. Man becomes the Garden which is the paradise of God. He is one of the many trees which will flourish in the Garden to come which is also called the New Jerusalem.
