Philippians 1:12-18 ESV
I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.
To Live Is Christ
Yes, and I will rejoice,
Why do bad things happen to good people? Who says they are good or bad? That determination often changes down the road, when viewing the same thing from a different perspective and place. The Lord sees everything in its entirety, from beginning to end. We see in part, and it's a small part indeed.
Paul sees the good in the face of bad things, how the Lord can use a situation regardless of how it might appear to us. In the end we will have the full view of the intent and wisdom of God. The gospel will advance because it is good news and offers the hope of the world. This has happened and is happening.
To live is Christ for He is the way. Bad things happened to Christ, but it was a good thing.
