Genesis 2:8-9 ESV
And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Every tree in the garden was pleasant to the sight and good for food. This included the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. No one tree is singled out as more desirable than another. Eve would note this later as she picked the forbidden fruit.
Why was this tree in the garden to begin with? That man would choose to believe God. Though one tree was forbidden, it looked no different than the rest to the eye or taste. But God knew it would result in death and told them so. Their choice was to believe God or be guided by their own thinking.
Both trees were in the middle of the garden. Eve was before both trees when she made her decision.
We stand before the same two trees. There are two paths before us. Moses gave two options to the Israelites with one path leading to blessings and the other to curses. Jesus said narrow is the path that leads the to God and wide is the way to destruction. For this decision we were formed and a decision will be made.
Choose this day whom you will serve.
