Genesis 1:1-3 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Man was created without form and substance in the kingdom of God, spiritually invisible in the light of God. Our face was veiled with darkness, though the Spirit of God was near the face of the waters. The light was eternally present because God is light. God intended for that light to be shared.
God's purpose for creation is contained in the command, "Let there be light."
The face of Jesus Christ brings that light into our darkness. He is the light of the world and brings into each heart the light of the Father of lights. He is our Father in heaven, the Son who shines on the earth, and the Spirit that no longer hovers over the face of the waters, but like Jesus, has descended into the waters of man to multiply that light that the world might know of the glory of God.
And there is light.
