Jn 3:16 ESV
For God So Loved the World “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
1Co 8:3
But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
Jn 16:27
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
God loved the world, so much so that He died for the world. This He has done and that love continues in its effect. The Greek word for "loved" found in John 3:16 is in the aorist present indicative voice, meaning it happened in the past and still applies. It is the transliterated word "agape" from the Greek. This word implies a more formal and less personal love, a love that can cover the world in its application.
In John 16:27 the word for "loves" is a different Greek word and is in a different tense. This word reflects an affection as for a friend. It Is in the present indicative voice meaning it is happening now. It reflects a more personal and intimate love, as would apply to a son.
Like Abraham, we are friends of God. Unlike Abraham, we are sons of God. The least one in the kingdom of heaven is greater than the prophets who came before the kingdom of heaven was established. We walk in that kingdom. God gave him a land on earth. It serves as a "type" of a promised inheritance which represents the glorious inheritance that awaits the child of God.
We are favored with the love of God, and doubly so. We bask in the warmth of that light.
