Only Words

Matthew 12:36-37 (MSG)
³⁶ Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously.
³⁷ Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation."

Jesus tells us of the power and consequence of words. They reflect what is inside us. They issue forth from who we are. They are powerful in that they have the ability of build somebody up or tear them down. We can speak words of praise, encouragement, love, and poetry, or we can utter words of slander, lie, belittle, and hurt others.

It is a sobering to think that all our words will be taken into account, just as actions. We will be judged by our words and the heart from which they flow.

Let us be mindful of the words we choose. They are not only words.
