Offered Him Gifts - Matthew 2:10-12

Matthew 2:10-12 ESV

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

The wise men were bringing the incense and gold because Jesus had come to hang on the tree of the cross as a burnt offering to God. He would provide a savory aroma to God above and enter the cloud filling the Holy of Holies. He would ascend into the clouds to enter heaven when His work was done.

The gifts were signifying and acknowledging His role in our appeal to God for the salvation of mankind. Jesus would provide another way to God, the only way.

Exodus 30:1-3 ESV

“You shall make an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. A cubit shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth. It shall be square, and two cubits shall be its height. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and around its sides and its horns. And you shall make a molding of gold around it.
