Into Egypt - Genesis 46:26-27

Genesis 46:26-27 ESV

All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own descendants, not including Jacob's sons' wives, were sixty-six persons in all. And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

The number given for the house of Israel going into Egypt is sixty-six. They would leave the promised land behind for the food and provision in a foreign land. They will join Joseph and his two sons in Egypt and the house of Israel is made whole, as represented by the number seventy.

Joseph, who was thought to be dead, has become the ruler of that distant kingdom and prepared the way for the remnant that would come. Jacob might signify the house of God, while Joseph might signify the kingdom of Christ. The kingdom of heaven has been planted in the soil of this earth. Christ is working the ground of mankind.

The people of God would become a mighty people who would be led out of Egypt by the hand of God, just as the children of God will be led out of the world by the hand of Christ and into the kingdom of heaven. Both will receive their promised inheritance. The people of God will receive and live in the promised land. The children of God will live in the life of God.

He has shown us what He will do when the time is right. There are six days of creation before God will rest from all His labors. He is bringing His people out of Egypt.

The sixth day is not complete. The seventh day is yet to come, but come it will. That is God’s will.
