But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.”
Abraham saw his limitations instead of God's power and offered a plan more reasonable to man to help the Lord and ensure success. Surely this would be easier and more likely to provide descendants than Sarah bearing a child? But God's ways are not the ways of man.
God would bless Ishmael, but the child of promise would be Isaac, Sarah's own son. God would make a way when there was no way. His word will prevail and it is good.
