Genesis 15:7-8 ESV
And he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.” But he said, “O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?”
The Lord has called us out of the world to possess an inheritance that is out of this world. Abram believes God, but wants to know more. We have received the same promise from the same Lord. It is a natural question. How do we know?
Abram's vision has the light of the Lord passing between the halves of the animals, in the very center of the creatures. That was the Lord's answer to Abram and foreshadows His answer for us. We are sealed in the Holy Spirit as we come to believe. The light of the Lord lives in us and confirms the promise, and with it comes a peace beyond understanding.
This is how we know.
