Yet Closes His Heart - 1 John 3:16-18

1 John 3:16-18 ESV

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Indifference is not compatible with God's love. John speaks of sharing the love of God with others. His love is poured out into our hearts and we are filled to overflowing, unless we close the door.

God's love does not see our plight and wish us the best, but is active to the point of sacrifice to make us whole.

If we close the doors of God's love in our lives, we are closing the door to God, for He is love. This is why it is possible for a believer to hear Him knocking at the door so that He might come in. Opening the door allows His love to enter and flow through us. It is then our cup overflows.
