Philippians 2:12-13 ESV
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Our salvation does not depend on our works. Paul is saying that we are to live in the salvation bestowed on us by God, and this to be done in a state of awe and wonder. We must be careful not to take His gift for granted.
He works in us through the Spirit, and through His Spirit we are able live for His pleasure and glory. That becomes our work.
