Not As Orphans - John 14:15-18

John 14:15-18 ESV

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Jesus prepares to leave but tells the disciples He will not leave. The Jesus they could see would be replaced by another manifestation of God. They would receive this helper just as they had received the man Jesus.

Christ is the Spirit. The Spirit is a manifestation of God just as is Jesus. Through the Spirit we are able to experience Jesus personally. We all encounter Jesus along the road of our journey. We look up and see the same light that Paul saw long ago. Our experience of the light may differ, but it is the same light from the throne of heaven.

Jesus tells us He will never leave us, and will be with us forever.

He is with us and in us. We are not orphans, but sons of God.
