The Invisible God - Genesis 1:26-27

Genesis 1:26-27 ESV

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

Colossians 1:15

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

When God created man in His own image, that image is that of Christ. He is the perfect image of God. We are the imperfect image that God is able to perfect through Christ.

He would later take our form, which was His image minus the presence of the Holy Spirit and in a body of earth, rather than an immortal body of the divine. They look similar as evidenced by the recognition by the disciples after the resurrection.

He would lay down His life and pick it back up on our behalf. It is in our image He came and in our image He left. We are like Him as He was on this earth and will be like Him as He is now.
