We speak of the aging of dogs as being in dog years, referencing their life span in human terms.
We often contemplate God in human terms because that is our frame of reference. He has a face, gets angry, takes too long, or changes His mind.
It may only be our version of tail wagging when the dog sees his master.
There is joy and recognition in that bond of love, but it does begin to define its owner.
