Then I Turned

Revelation 1:12-16 (ESV Strong's)

12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

When we turn to the Lord, it is then we can begin to see the Lord. John sees Jesus in the light of who He is. Jesus is the Son of God who became the Son of Man so that we might become sons of God. Those who turn to the Lord become the light of the world because He is with us and in our midst.

The image before him are attributes that uniquely identify Him as Christ Jesus. His wisdom and righteousness are signified by His white hair and may remind us of God the Father. His eyes burn with the refining fire and judgement of the Lord. The bronze feet could symbolize His time walking on the earth as a man through the furnace of tribulation and death. His voice like many waters is comprised of all those who are in the body of Christ. They are held in the palm of His hand and from there they share light of Christ. When He speaks, the Spirit of truth gives utterance. His face shines with the light that is only possible from the one who is the exact image of God.
