Might Become Heirs

Titus 3:4-7 (ESV Strong's)

4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

God’s mercy enables us to choose Him, trading our life for His.  The regeneration made possible with the gift of the Holy Spirit brings us to the same garden of decision given to Adam. The presence of the Spirit gives us the freedom to choose.

We have the advantage over Adam in that we already know the difference between good and evil. Our eyes have been opened to see the good of the Lord and the evil of man. We can see the difference and choose accordingly.

Will we obey God and not eat the forbidden fruit? Will we choose to eat from the tree of life, or choose one of the many other trees in the garden? Not everyone will choose eternal life, but now we can decide for ourselves.
