Revelation 1:9-11
Vision of the Son of Man
I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
The book of Revelation is mostly the conclusion of the story of God entering creation through His chosen people of Israel.
The book is written to and for His servants in the Church of Jesus Christ who are united in the presence of the Spirit. John is in the Spirit to receive the vision. We must be in the Spirit to hear it.
Chapters 1 through 3 address and apply as warnings and encouragement for the Church in the pause in God’s timeline that allows for the gathering of the Gentiles into the kingdom of heaven.
Chapter 4 begins the grand finale of the testimony of Scripture which starts with Genesis, “In the beginning God...” and applies to Israel and those who dwell on the earth.
