Mark 1:2-3 ESV
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way,
the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
John embodies the prophets and Old Testament of a people who prepared the way for The Lord. Israel journeyed in the wilderness with the word of God. Israel was not the one, but pointed to the one to come. Their story, struggle, and witness prepared the way and gave birth to the Messiah Who would give flesh to that word.
