1 Timothy 2:1-6 (NIV)
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
Some believe that only those predestined to be saved can be saved. There are some verses that seem to imply that belief. But there are others like these which plainly state that Jesus did what He did for all mankind. He wants all men to be saved.
Just as there is only one God, there is only one way by which we may come to the one God. We are predestined to follow Jesus and be like Him if we accept God’s offer of salvation through faith. Some would say there are many ways to get to God, but that is not what the Word says.
John 3:16 (NIV)
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
One is given for all men.
