To All Who Are Waiting

Luke 2:36-38 (ESV Strong's)

36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Numbers in Scripture often convey additional meaning to the words in a verse. Being married as a virgin for seven years implies a divine perfection in her life with God. Eighty-four years is a multiple of twelve which is the number of completeness of government or rule.

She sees the child Jesus who will bring a new government, or kingdom, to Jerusalem and redemption to its people. She gives thanks to God for letting her witness this day.

There is such a day for those in the body of Christ. We are married to Christ as a people made virgins by His blood and await the day of His return to establish His kingdom on earth. We give thanks to God for the hope and expectation that this will come to pass.
