A Name For Ourselves- Genesis 11:1-4

Genesis 11:1-4

Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.
And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.
Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”

The tower is under constant construction as man places trust in his own name. Empty words are empty of life, however impressive or how well they are strung together. The word of God endures while the impotent words of man fall short of lofty visions and boasts, only to crumble to the ground.

The words of life are given by one man. It starts by the command for light to be given to the world and ends with the incarnation of that light. That light is the light of the world.

Salvation only comes through one name, that of the one Begotten Son of the one God. He has given to us His own name, far above any other name.
