The Firstborn - Exodus 13:15-16

Exodus 13:15-16 ESV
For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

Being the firstborn could be a good or bad thing depending on which family you choose. The firstborn of God's sons find the redemption of God. Rejecting His offer of grace can result in the sacrifice which is lot of every natural man.

The Israelites received the mark of God on the outside as sign of their distinction from the world. The Church receives the mark of God on the inside through the giving of the Holy Spirit. He is written on our hearts by His indwelling of the heart of each believer.
