Bitter Root - Deuteronomy 29:18

Deuteronomy 29:18 NASB
so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.

The Greek word translated as root can also mean heel, or sole. "Poisonous" could refer to snake venom. Wormwood means bitter.

The snake of Eden, or the devil, is thrown in the water and what it touches becomes bitter. It slides on its belly to bruise or bite the heel with the sting of death.

Serve the Lord our God, placing our weight on the branch of Judah and denying the bitter root which appears when one turns away. Let the good seed take root instead.
