John 19:34-37 NASB
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “ Not A bone of Him shall be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “ They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”
Blood and water flowed from His side. The blood that would cleanse us and fill the cup of the new covenant was poured out on the earth. The water might represent the water of our baptism, of our joining with Him as we die with Him to the flesh.
Later when He showed Himself to the disciples after the resurrection, He invited them to verify flesh and bone. There is no mention of blood.
Adam said Eve was of his flesh and bone. This pictures our union with Christ. Our life is not in our blood, but in the life of God. We are reborn in the Spirit and will inherit new flesh and bone when Christ returns.
