He Knew -John 2:23-25

John 2:23-25 ESV
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.

We are reminded how common it is for a man's words to not be aligned with his heart. Words can be effortless and thoughtless. They are easily formed and manipulated and often deceptive. How many times have we heard something like, "what do you really think?" We can deceive and be deceived so easily.

This was not the way it was for Jesus. Not only was He the Son of God, He was the Son of Man. As the Son of God, He gazed into men's hearts. He needed no witness, for the man gave witness of himself. In the same way, we will all stand before The Lord in the end and give an account. As the Son of Man, Jesus was wrapped in the form of our mortal flesh. He had first hand knowledge of the temptations, weakness, and frailties that are common to man. Yet, He loves us. In His mercy, He reaches out to our brokenness to make us whole. It is this mercy that draws us close as children of the Father.

Matthew 13:20-23
As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

1 Chronicles 28:9-10
9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. 10 Be careful now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
10 “I the Lord search the heart
and test the mind,
to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Hebrews 4:13
And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
