Come And See -John 1:35-39

John 1:35-39 ESV
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

John's mission of preparing the way for The Lord continues. The next day he points to Jesus again, for He is the way. Two of his disciples hear him and follow after Jesus. Jesus turns to the two and asks them the question that applies today, "What are you seeking?".

That same question is one we all need to answer, though we might not encounter that phrase in exactly those words. Our answer is subject to change, depending on circumstance and progress in our journey. The ultimate thing we are looking for is God, though this is rarely recognized as the source of our longing. Instead, we substitute other things and tend to focus on things other than God. We are prone to wander in our movement. If we live, we are in motion, toward one destination or another. It has been said every decision takes us a step closer or further from God.

They answer, calling Him "Rabbi". They follow Him to learn, to be with Him. Jesus accepts them, just as He does all that seek Him. These two were seeking, as evidenced by their discipleship to John. John prepared the way, pointing to the Light of the world. He steps aside as the two now follow after Jesus. They want to learn more of this man. In the beginning God said, "Let there be light", and it was so.

Jesus says, "Come and see". And so they do.

Isaiah 45:22
“ Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.

Ruth 1:15-16
And she said, “See, your sister- in- law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister- in- law.” 16 But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.

Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me.

Mark 10:51-52
And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
