Child of God

1 Peter 1:8-9 (NIV)
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

It does not make sense. Any rational person would tell you so. How can you love and believe in someone whom you’ve never seen? You’re making this up because you need something to help you get by. You’re dreaming. This is childish. You are foolish to believe in such notions.

Yet, you know this faith is true. There is a confirmation within that goes beyond words, a knowing which is just as real as anything we can see or touch. It is the knowing that brings joy and peace. This is the peace beyond understanding, beyond words. This is our joy in the Lord that comes from accepting His salvation.

This is childish, but not in the way others might think, but in the way that leads to life; we are children of God. We have overcome the ways of the world which now seem childish and foolish to eyes that have been opened. At least the One inside us has overcome the world. There may be a few things we’re still working on with His help.

I hope that I do act like a child of God.

May my actions and joy reveal that I am indeed a child of God.
