Shall Bear Fruit - Isaiah 11:1-2

Isaiah 11:1-2 ESV

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,

and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and might,

the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

The tree of life is before us in these verses. It took root in the earth of mankind, grew and prepared the way for a branch that would emerge from the radical pruning of Israel, paving the way for the righteous growth of the branch that would bear the fruit of the Lord. Its branches reach into the clouds of heaven.

The fruit comes from the Spirit of God, whom He has given to us in the body of Christ. The Spirit has descended and rests on each of us. We must walk in the newness of that life that leads to life everlasting.
