Matthew 10:34-36 ESV
Not Peace, but a Sword
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter- in- law against her mother- in- law. And a person 's enemies will be those of his own household.
A startling statement from the Prince of Peace! There is nothing inclusive between the kingdom of God and the world. They are as different as night and day, as darkness and light.
Jesus came to call for us to leave the world and enter the kingdom of life, though we remain on this earth for now. If we make peace with God, we lose our peace with the world. One cannot be friends of the world and be a friend of God.
God loved us when we were yet unlovely and proved it on the cross. He came way more than halfway to reconcile us with the sword of His mouth. That word will set us free.
