Humble

1 Peter 5:5-6 (NIV)
5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

God’s will for us is not so much a destination as it is a state of being. When we accept His Son and what He has done, we are awakened and reborn into the spiritual kingdom of God. The initial manifestation is within the believer and will fully come to all creation in the fullness of time. The Spirit begins a work within us that will come to full fruition when we are with the Lord.

That state of being, being in God’s will, is one turned toward God with an open heart. Being humble is a necessary prerequisite for this grace to be received and a requirement for the ongoing work of the Spirit. The humble in spirit are more able to see themselves and others in God’s light. They are more likely to hear the Holy Spirit whispering the word of God. They will be lifted up by the glory of God. This is a gift, the full measure of which is beyond our comprehension. Being humble with a thankful heart is the only correct response.
