How Do We Measure?

2Corinthians
10:12 For we would not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who recommend themselves. But when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.

If our focus is on self we tend to see things from our own small view. Our frame of reference is limited and distorted. Measuring ourselves by ourselves is like trying to use a ruler to measure the ocean. It just doesn’t work.

If our focus is on God then our frame of reference is true. We are able to see clearly and rightly. Wisdom and understanding come from God.

Some say truth is relative. That is only true if one is speaking of how it relates to God. God is Truth. He is the ultimate and only measure of all things. He is Holy and Just, the Creator of all things. This is understanding.
