Hebrews 2:17-18 ESV
" Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted."
Jesus shared in the universal suffering of man. We are subject to our nature brought into the world when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit. We now see and choose between good and evil. We suffer with this choice today. We suffer because we are prone to choose unwisely, yet with many choices before us.
Christ was tempted but never sinned. Man was never able to do that. Because He experienced what we experience, He knows our struggles intimately and is more than able to help us in time of need. His mercy is new everyday.
