Bad and good things happen to everyone, though with different outcomes. For those who love the Lord, God uses them in the transformation and sanctification of His children. They are able to learn more of God's love and strengthen their faith in His word.
The focus is not on things that happen, but how The Lord is using those things in that life to perfect that life. That is the purpose.
