The Cherubim Of Glory

Hebrews 9:5 (ESV)
5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

The last thing we saw of the Garden of Eden after the expulsion of Adam and Eve was a flaming sword and cherubim guarding the entrance back to the Garden. Atop the Ark, they are the last thing between the mercy seat and the presence of God. Jesus alone was able to pass those guardian angels which sin invoked. It took the grace of God to open the door. They stood aside as the victorious and worthy One entered, returning to His rightful place, returning with those who were once lost but are now found. No longer do the cherubim overshadow the mercy seat. Their wings lifted, the light of glory now shines unobstructed.
