Revelation 1:10-11
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
A trumpet signifies an announcement, a royal decree. This is the powerful voice of the word of God, that of Jesus Christ. Scripture is understood to be divinely inspired, but Revelation is uniquely given by Jesus Christ to John. Jesus speaks to John in His full glory.
He will address the Gentile churches in Chapters Two and Three, correcting and praising as appropriate, and encouraging perseverance to the end with the rewards that follow. The letters are addressed to the individual churches, but is presented as a book for the Church that awaits His return.
In Chapter Four and onward, the focus turns to Israel. The resolution of Israel in Scripture lies in the remaining chapters. The wrath of God will intensify on this tiny nation as the surrounding nations which seek the destruction of God's chosen ones and His holy mountain.
