Genesis 2:4 ESV
These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
The word generations imply family, people. Here earth represents man and heavens the divine. This is the story of the heavens and earth, beginning as separated until the union provided by the divine light would join the two into one, bridging them with the power of love.
There is a people chosen by God to bring the light into the world. A man is chosen for this purpose and his name was Adam. Through his descendants would come another who would be the light of the world. These are the generations of the family that would begin the unification of the heavens and earth. The imperative of creation of "Let there be light " will and is fulfilled.
